She’s not a solo artist although it appears so, Tanya Volkova a.k.a. Lady Fly (her nickname from childhood) from Ukraine recorded songs with Another Me, New Line, and Aida and shared the stage with them as well. Currently, she’s on the hunt for a new band and with her recent signing to Music Gallery International management it shouldn’t be a problem to find new bandmates. Tanya growls the most of time but has a good clean rock voice too and it’s time to get to know her a little better.
6 questions to… is a series of questions to artists about themselves, answers can be short or long and each artist gets the same questions
When did you start with singing and why did you want to sing?
The first time I started singing was during music classes at school and I enjoyed doing it. Then when I was about 8 years old, there was a set of children in the choir and I decided to try myself. It was interesting to me.
Who influenced you the most at the beginning of your career and who are your current favorites?
Some of the first musicians who inspired me were Alexi Laiho, Dave Williams, and Eric Adams. They still inspire me and are my favorites.
What other types of music would you like to sing?
I have always loved metal music and do not see myself in a different style, as it would be rather boring for me. But sometimes I like singing with an acoustic guitar.
What is the highlight of your career?
My career is not a goal, but a journey that I am going through. The main thing for me is that I have some pretty nice material that I can share with other people. And an important event for me was the acquaintance with my manager Shawn and the addition to Music Gallery International roster.
What was the funniest moment in your career?
The funniest moment in my career was during one of my concerts where bands of different music styles (pop, folk, rock) participated and my metal band was the heaviest there at that time. I remember the surprised faces of people very well when I started singing my first song haha.
Tips for people who want to start singing as you do?
The main advice is that not running, but walking will overcome the road. At least one step a day is important. If you cannot walk, you must lie in the right direction. Motivation and inspiration create wonders.
