Project Renegade from Greece is fronted by Marianna Florou and to date, they have released the Cerebra EP in 2017 and the debut full-length Order of the Minus in 2019. Currently, the band is recording songs for a new upcoming album and if they continued the growth they had between the EP and the debut album then the new album will have a big impact in the Metal scene.
Musically can Project Renegade be labeled as Alternative Metal I guess but they are so much more and with Marianna’s powerful vocals is Project Renegade definitely a band to keep an eye on.
6 questions to… is a series of questions to artists about themselves, answers can be short or long and each artist gets the same questions
When did you start with singing and why did you want to sing?
I remember myself singing since I was a little kid fooling around. Then I always wanted to be part of the artistic activities in my school years and I was a member of the school choir and a soloist whenever we had a school concert. But the conscious decision of wanting to become a singer came a lot later after I graduated when I started taking voice lessons and having a more clear goal in my mind. As to why I started, I guess it’s what I have to offer to this world, my need to express myself, and my way of communicating with other people. I have to admit that for me singing is like a basic need, like eating or sleeping!
Who influenced you the most at the beginning of your career and who are your current favorites?
Well, there are a lot of musicians that I really admire, but the first strong impression from a singer and especially a female singer was when I saw Amy Lee of Evanescence live when I was still a teenager. It was the first time I saw a girl on stage rocking out and headbanging and jumping around and I felt a sense of liberation in all that. The memory of that show is forever with me. Alongside Amy Lee, other musicians that I admire are Jonathan Davis, Maria Brink, Devin Townsend, Sam Carter, Cristina Scabbia, Hayley Williams, Corey Taylor, and many many others!
What other types of music would you like to sing?
Literally everything! I have sung rock, pop, rnb, soul, musical, opera, medieval, baroque music, and anything in between. I like everything that has good taste, groove, and reflects the truth of the artist!
What is the highlight of your career?
I should say when we played alongside Evanescence in Kyiv, Ukraine. Apart from supporting my favorite band, it was the hugest crowd we have ever played to and one of the warmest. It was an amazing experience, kinda a full circle for me!
What was the funniest moment in your career?
Funny moments are the only moments I live with my guys in the band. From the top of my head, I remember a radio interview where we were having so much fun that a lot of inappropriate words were starting to fly around and the hosts had to end the show because we couldn’t help ourselves joking with each other. Generally, if anyone could hear us they would probably think we have invented our own language!
Tips for people who want to start singing as you do?
Believe in yourselves and always remember that you are doing something you love! It’s not a competition and each of us has its own pace! Don’t give up and always be a student and a lover of music!
