With just drums, bass and vocals you can make awesome Heavy and Psychedelic music, Spitfire is the living proof of that. Hailing from the US and with Breaking Down they present their debut single. The duo is currently working on an EP that should get a release this summer so we got something to look out for.
This is a collaboration I didn’t see coming, the Dark Ambient pioneer Lustmord who teamed up with Karin Park, a solo artist and member of Norwegian Rock band Arabrot. In an incredible mournful and ethereal way, the music just flows into the room. The album Alter gets its release on June 25 via Pelagic Records and for me, it’s definitely a contester for album of the year.
Eternal Silence from Italy will release its fourth studio album on October 8 via Rockshots Records. Timegate Anathema is the name and once again the band created the quality kind of Symphonic Metal that they are widely known for since 2008 and I really like that Alberto and Marika are still sharing the vocal duties.
Queen of Distortion was new for me, just like Green Bronto Records, the label that is going to release the debut album from Queen of Distortion on July 2. Bloody Rain is the second single from the album Checkmate! and both singles give a good taste of what Checkmate! will bring, pure Hard rocking Metal, nothing more and nothing less. The band from Germany released an EP in 2019 and a live EP in 2020 so if you can’t wait till July 2, check those out, especially the live EP surprised me.
Sanity Obscure is also from Germany and it took the band 12 years to come up with new music as their latest sign of life was their 2009 album Springtime’s Masquerade. But we have to give them respect cause Sanity Obscure is doing it since 1999. The band name sounded very familiar to me but I mistook it for one of my favorite albums from Believer, the 1990 album with the fantastic song Dies Irae. But I’m wandering off, so welcome back Sanity Obscure and I’ll be awaiting your new album.
And here I have another gem that was hidden for me until now, Nebulae from Italy that recently released a video for Potato, a song from their 2018 album Carbon. Another album was released in 2019 and that one goes by the name Pulse. Nebulae is the more groovy and crusty sis of Jinjer and I’m amazed at the attention to detail that the band has in their music but still manage to sound as sheer fun.
Jalang, formerly know as Lai, is straight in your face D-beat Hardcore Punk from Australia with some serious ferocious vocals. Santau will be the new album for Jalang and will be released on July 23 digital and limited vinyl. I hope they have some European distro’s cause I want one but ordering outside the EU is insane nowadays with all the additional costs.
Anastasia Coburg is releasing under the name Koburg music that’s incredible if you take into consideration that it all is written and performed by the lady herself. We could be Angels is taken from the 2020 album Position of Power and in other news, she’s currently working on a new EP so stay tuned for that.
Star Crystal floats somewhere between Hardrock and Glam Rock and reminds me of the 80s when Hardrock bands went for a more accessible sound with their music. Not a bad thing by the way cause it delivered quite a few legendary albums and the fun thing with this latest single from Star Crystal is that’s it actually the other way around, they sound more Hardrocking than on their two previous albums and now I’m really interested in the future of the band.
Grungy Heavy Rock trio Atrocity Girl has their second single released and a full-length debut album should be on its way and that’s good news cause I really like the attitude they put into their music.
